There is someone out there that does not want you to succeed. That person lives within you and today is the day that we terminate that person. Forever.
He/she works for you. We call this person the Head of the Success Prevention Department for You, Inc. They try to keep your life stagnant, predictable, unsuccessful, and awake throughout the night. They cloud you with doubt, steal your confidence, load you with personality traits that you want to shake, and harbor internal friction that burns your will power and positive energy.
How to rid yourself of this onboard terrorist?
- Get in touch with the Prevention part of you that is holding you back. You need to have a conversation with them. One part (Success) of you likes you…the other part (Prevention) constantly points out your deficiencies.
- Ask Prevention “Why are you holding me back?” Get that answer.
- Develop a tight relationship with Success – the part that drives you to major accomplishments. Ask them “What do I have to do to be successful and what needs to happen so that I can achieve higher success in my life?” Get that answer.
- Bring up both parts and have a discussion. Try to see where they can work with each other and make it a strong relationship. The result could be that Success should ask the Prevention, “What am I not paying attention to right now?” Allow Prevention to have their voice and opinion.
- Recognize this friction and conflicting parts. Integrate them and listen to them. Let them both speak and work out a positive solution that catapults you forward.
- Once the solution is solidified, fire Prevention. It may take several (numerous?) firings to finally rid yourself of this trait. Allow yourself the time to do so, as long as you continually move forward.
Firing the Head of Your Success Prevention Department can be an involved process, but the benefits are substantial both in the short- and long-term. You can’t achieve Transformation without this process.
